What it is

What is an online structural engineer and how does it work?

An online structural engineer is an engineer specialised in structural analysis and design who works remotely on your projects. They receive the architectural drawings, model the structure in CYPECAD, SAP2000 or Tekla, size every element (columns, beams, floor slabs, foundations) and deliver a calculation report plus reinforcement drawings ready for permit submission.

Without hiring an in-house engineer, without software licence costs, without paying holidays or social-security contributions. You only pay for the calculation when you need it. Ideal for architects who outsource the technical side, developers with a single project and engineering firms with workload peaks.

When to hire one

When do you need an online structural engineer?

Architects and developers call us in very specific situations: a project needs a permit and they have no in-house structural engineer; a client demands seismic analysis before signing; an existing building shows signs of damage and needs assessment and a reinforcement proposal.

We also work with contractors who need to reinterpret a previous calculation, with owners who want to add storeys to an existing dwelling and with engineering firms whose workload has overflowed.

If you have no in-house structural engineer, if yours is overloaded or if you simply prefer not to grow your fixed structure for a one-off commission, the online structural engineer model fits. And if you have steady demand, our monthly hour packs give you capacity on demand.

The result: rigorous calculation, documentation ready for permit submission and a backup structural engineer whenever you need one.

We deliver the CTE calculation report, reinforcement drawings and schedules. Revisions for client-side changes are quoted separately.

05

Software and deliverables

CYPECAD, SAP, Tekla. The industry standard.

We work with CYPECAD & CYPE 3D for most building projects. The CYPE suite covers concrete, steel, timber and composite with the CTE/EHE codes built in.

For advanced analysis —long-span roofs, complex three-dimensional frames, modal seismic analysis— we use SAP2000, Robot Structural or Tekla Structural Designer. For critical steel connections: Idea StatiCa.

We deliver: CTE calculation report, reinforcement drawings in DWG/PDF, quantity schedules, element lists, the native CYPE model if you need it, and code-compliance check reports.

How we quote

By the hour or by project. Quote tailored to you.

We offer two arrangements to fit the way you work:

  • ·Fixed quote per project. For commissions with a defined scope. We tell you the price before we start and it doesn’t change unless an agreed scope change occurs.
  • ·Hour pack. From 5h. Ideal for one-off reinforcements, assessments, checks or advice without a full project.

Some indicative orders of magnitude:

  • Single-family home calculation · concrete600–1.200€
  • Industrial unit calculation · steel1.200–3.500€
  • Localised structural reinforcement400–900€
  • CTE DB-SE report · code compliance check500–1.500€
  • Assessment + structural damage diagnosis350–900€

These are only indicative orders of magnitude. Each project is quoted to measure based on scope, complexity and seismic zone. Reply within 24h.

Coverage

Structural engineer for the whole of Spain

Our office is in Cáceres (Extremadura), but we calculate structures for projects in every province of Spain. The national CTE code applies the same; only the local parameters change (seismic zone, wind loads, snow), which we already have catalogued.

For projects in relevant seismic zones (Granada, Murcia, Alicante, Almería), we apply NCSE-02 with modal analysis and inter-storey drift checks. For extreme wind or snow zones, we adjust the coefficients per CTE DB-SE-AE.

Does your project also need CAD/BIM drafting or AI-powered code compliance checks? We offer the complete service from a single company, with no external subcontractors.

Video testimonial

“The project comes out just as well, but it takes me half the time.”

Federico Araujo · D-LINIEX client

That lets me take on more commissions without stressing over impossible deadlines.

09

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us most.

What types of structures do you calculate?

+

We calculate the four main materials: reinforced concrete, steel, timber (including CLT) and composite (a combination of the above). We do single-family homes, multi-family buildings, industrial units, heritage refurbishment and civil engineering structures.

Do you sign and certify the calculation report?

+

No. We are a technical calculation service. The report and drawings are always signed by the competent professional (architect, industrial or civil engineer…) leading the project. We provide all the technical documentation ready for permit submission.

Do you use CYPE, SAP or other software?

+

We work mainly with CYPECAD and CYPE 3D for buildings, and with SAP2000, Robot Structural Analysis or Tekla Structural Designer for more complex cases. For steel connections we use Idea StatiCa and Cype Connect. We also hand over the model if you need it.

Does it include seismic analysis per NCSE?

+

Yes. Every structure in a relevant seismic zone includes analysis per NCSE-02 (or NCSE-94 where applicable) and the corresponding coefficients. If your project is in Granada, Murcia, Alicante or any zone with significant basic acceleration, seismic analysis is automatic.

What do I need to send you to get started?

+

Ideally: architectural drawings (DWG or PDF), a descriptive report with the building use, location (for climate, seismic and wind-load zoning) and a geotechnical study if you have one. If you don’t have a geotechnical report, we quote with conservative values until you do.

Do you also calculate reinforcements and structural refurbishment?

+

Yes. Floor-slab strengthening with FRP, carbon fibre, overlays, functional column replacement, foundation strengthening, etc. Also damage diagnosis for existing buildings with structural problems.

Do you work with specific regional regulations?

+

Yes. We apply the national CTE DB-SE plus regional regulations (ITE in Catalonia, DT-CSE in Andalusia, etc.) and Eurocodes when the project requires them. If the area has specific regulations for loads, wind or seismic, we incorporate them automatically.

Do you have professional indemnity insurance?

+

Yes. Although we don’t sign the project (the client’s professional does), our company holds professional indemnity insurance for the technical services we provide.
